In January 1995, an independent Malay weekly paper, Media Permata was launched, focusing on local news and features for the Malay literate. Media Permata was relaunched as a daily newspaper on 30 July 1998. An average of 10,000 copies of Media Permata are circulated.

Media Permata is available from Monday to Saturday. The Saturday edition features a special 16-page pull out segment entitled ‘Suasana’. Targeted at more leisure reading, this section contains poetic contributions, letters, counselling, entertainment news & special features.
